Athalia lay on one of the few padded benched in the garden with her cat Mage on her chest. The feline purred in her ear making her drowsy and almost go to sleep. School had been hard today, it seemed they had really piled the homework on today and although the girl needed to work on it she couldn't bring herself to do it, all she wanted to do was forget this day had ever happened. But not because the classes, no, because of what a some of the students had done. Right before she had been supposed to go one of her classes she had opened her locker to have a bucket of fish oil dumped on her shirt, pants, and shoes. She had to clean it up, run up to her room, clean it off, change clothes and come back, by that time she had already missed almost half of the class. The smell however had still lingered despite her efforts and the teacher had excused her from class for the rest of the afternoon to giver her more time the clean up, however Lia had had to return to do that class after all the other classes were finished. Finally she was finished with all her classes (nearly an hour later than everyone else) and couldn't smell the fish unless she moved just right. So instead of moving she lay there, wanting to restart the day and knowing she never could.

John had a bit of studying to do but he found the library to crowded and his room to confining. So he decided to go outside and sit on a bench and do some reading. He had found the garden quite restful when he had been exploring earlier and decided to go there. When he arrived he was a little surprised to find Athelia there. "Oh...hello. Am I disturbing you?" John asked. If she wanted to be alone, John could always find another place to study.

"No, not really," she answered before sitting up to look at him, Mage complaining as he was forced to move. "Oh, hello, you're John, correct? You have the super sight and hearing, am I right?" Her heartbeat quickened at the sight of him but she made it calm down, if he heard, oh Lord she would never be able to face him again. Hoping to cover the sound she decided to introduce herself, "I'm Athalia Pierce, pleased to meet you." 'Do you think you could make more of a fool of yourself?' said the cat, his whiskers forward in what Lia recognized as a smug smile, 'This is so much fun to watch.' Lia glared at the cat. 'Oh shut up,' she told him silently.

John nodded. "You remembered." He said with a slight grin, pleased. And she didn't seem to mind he fact he interrupted her. The cat seemed a little annoyed, but he didn't take it personally. "Yes, I'm John. Nice to meet you too, Athelia." He said as he sat down next to her on the bench. "So, how long have you been at Dynatos?" he asked.

"A few months, long enough to know that not too many people like how my power influences my life. But on the other hand long enough to make some friends who aren't scared away by the cold shoulder they get from others for hanging out with me," she blinked a little as it all came rushing out. Why was she being so honest with him? She usually bottled stuff up in side and put on a mask. 'I guess hinting that being clase to me is not a good thing is one way to see if a relationship of any sort can grow between us. Wouldn't you say Mage?' 'I think you aren't paying enough attention to the spot behind my ears.' Lia smiled and started scratching the cat and asked, "How about you, been here long?"

John frowned. "What do you mean? How does your power influence your life? By having to come to the school? I would think that's something everyone here has in common." he said, a little puzzled by her remark. Was she trying to warn him about something? He then continued on and answered her question. "I just got here yesterday, so no, I haven't been here long." John held out his hand to the cat, letting it sniff his hand, and waited to see if the cat would pull away or allow him to pet it.

Mage sniffed for a moment before butting his head up under John's hand. Athalia's hand slid down to scratch the cat's back. "The whole cat thing is like, a dye that seeps into almost every facet of my character. It changes the way I act half the time or the way I think. It is more animalistic, more instinctive. I tend to do things without thinking because the animal side of me wants me too. Doing so has made me less popular with some of the people in the school. The jocks primarily. Too many people are perfectly fine being my friend until they have to choose between me and acceptance by the more popular kids. Those who choose me don't get an easy social life, usually they are rejected and subject to pranks." She shifted and the wind caught the slight scent of fish, making her nose crinkle in disgust. "I tell you this not to try and dump it on you or anything, but you should know what to expect if you are around me too much," putting on a pouty face she added, "I'm a jinx." With a turn about in her demenor she she in a helpful tone, "However, I'm a jinx that knows her way around. Feel free and look me up if you ever need help figuring something out around here, honey."

John began scratching the cat behind it's ears, but kept most of his attention on Athalia. "I see." John replied noncommitadly to her explanation of her behaviour. His uncle had always taught him the value of thinking throught a problem, but he had admitted that sometimes you just had to follow your instinct and act. John didn't know Apelia well enough to know how big a problem it was for her. The fact he wouldn't be popular if he was seen with her didn't bother him. If people wanted to be that shallow and judge him, that was their problem, not his.
John's nose crinkled slightly as he picked up the fish oder, but he decided not to make an issue of it. "I don't really beleive in jinx's." John admitted then his eyes widened in surprise. Did she just call him...honey?

"Pity, that is the best way to explain the effect I have on people," she said, not even noticing what she had called, it was common for her to call people honey and darling, well people she enjoyed the company of anyway. So far he was deffinately on the list, even Mage liked him. 'What do you think? A keeper?' 'He seems nice enough but he doesn't know my name yet. You have been negligent in your manners,' said the cat as he purred. "Oh forgive me dear puss, you are correct," she said aloud to the cat and then looking back at John she said, "John this fine feline is Mage, Mage this fine boy is John."

Huh? John thought. Did she just talk to the cat? Was that one of her powers? Or was there more to the cat then there appeared to be? "hello, Mage. Nice to meet you." He then glanced back at Athelia. Had she just called him a fine boy? he didn't think she knew him well enough for her to make that assesment. But once again, he decided not to bring it up, more interested in her first statement. "And it's nice to meet you, Athelia. Officially, at least." he said as he looked her in the eye. "But, if you don't mind my asking...Umm...What's your power?" He wanted to ask if she'd been talking to the cat, but was afraid if she hadn't been and was just pretending, he'd look silly.

"I can morph into any feline, from a house cat to a tiger, and I can talk to any animal, well any animal I have met so far, and we've done several tests. Of course just because I can talk to the animal doesn't mean it chooses to listen to me, most animals are happy to have a human who can hear them but snakes, crocodiles, and rats are the worst type of animal to try and reason with, they are such jerks," they weren't the only animals she had met that were difficult but as a whole they were impossible. "Anyway, I can talk to an animal either silently or aloud, just as they speak to us in the same way, not that anyone else can hear them. We think that because of the transforming power I am somehow part cat and that means I can hear them, since all animals can talk to each other."

"Wow." John said as he glanced over at Aphelia admiringly. So she hadn't been pretending to talk to the cat. And it wasn't just the cat, she could talk to any animal. And not just that, she was a shapeshifter as well. "That kind of puts my powers to shame." he admitted. "It...must be nice to always have someone around to talk to." he finished quietly, thinking of a few times in his life he would have enjoyed that.

"It shouldn't put yours to shame, everyone's power if different, there are some powers I would love to have. They would be less trouble. It is nice to talk to the animals but the problem is that animals are significantly simpler minded that we are, most of them are anyway. It is impossible to talk to them about school or something like that because they don't understand it. Mage has been around me long enough to understand most everything about me, so I talk to him msot of all." She ruffled the cat's fur, making him mad, and the smoothed it back down, chuckling. "So I know the general idea of your power but I don't know how much you can do, like can you see in the dark, or it just a distance or how does it work? And how far can you hear without that headset?"

Jonhn chuckled wryly. "My uncle would say alot of people fit in the category you just named...so simple-minded it's impossible to talk to them about anything intelligent." John continued to scratch the cat's ears as he listened to Athalia's questions. "I can't see as well in the dark as I can with the light, but I can see better then most. And it isn't just distance, I can see through most objects as well. I'm not sure exactly how it works, the power just started to kick in before I got sent here. And without the headset...well, if someone was whispering in my ear, I could hear them as easily as I can hear you...if I could manage to tune out the rest of the noise. I'm still working on that part."

"Hm, is there anything you can't see through? Like steel or flesh? Can you see through the earth? Like if you looked down would you be able to see through the ground to the earth's core? Since you can hear better can you pick up inflections in a person's voice better and be able to tell their mood through their voice?" She stopped and took a couple breaths, she had spoken really fast without pausing in her excitment, "I'm sorry for so many questions. You know what they say, curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back."
