"I haven't encountered anything I can't see through yet, if I concentrate hard enough and I'm close enough to it. But the denser or farther away the object, the more difficult it is for me to see through." John explained. "I can't see to the core of the earth, because it's too far away...by a considerable margin." John chuckled softly at the idea. "I can usually tell when someone is lying to me. not just by the inflection of their voice, but by their heartbeat. My Uncle called me his human lie detector. And I don't mind you asking me questions. It makes it easier to carry on a conversation." John smiled over at Athelia. "And who is they? And how did curiosity kill the cat?" he glanced down at Mage. He certainly seemed all right. Was she talking about another cat? "And how did it come back?"

"Actually I don't the answer to any of those questions, but that idiom always seemed to be a life motto for me. Even before these powers emerged. It pretty much sums me up. Curiosity always gets me into trouble, but I feel better when I know things." She suddenly stood and bent over backwards until her hands touched the ground, "Please don't think me rude I just have to move around some times, if I sit still too long I get antsy, 'tis nothing against you. In fact you kept me still longer than most people can manage to do. Brovo!" She giggled good naturedly, he wasn't boring she just had to move, her body declared it. She kicked off the ground and managed to balance herself so she was standing on her hands, she teatered slightly and walked to keep her balance. Mage just sat there, paying the girl no heed as he was petted. "So why, if you don't mind me asking, did you come out here? Surely not that same reason I did."

John just shrugged when she got up and apolagized for having to move around. "No apolagy necasary. I get the same way when...sometimes." john stopped before the conversation got to personal. Athelia seemed nice, but he wasn't comfortable talking about his claustrophobia with her. "And knowing things can be good. My Uncle used to say knowledge is power...but your right, it can be dangerous as well." John grinned slightly, then stood up and did a handstand as well, duplicating Athelia before he answered her questions. "I don't know for sure why you came here, but I suspect your right and our circumstances are different. i came here because, quite simply, I have nowhere else to go. My Mom's busy, I don't know my Dad and my uncle..." John trailed off again. "other relatives are unavailable." he finished a bit evasively.

Athalia stiffled a giggle, "I had meant what were you doing out here in the garden, but if you want to tell your life story I won't stop you, I'm always a listening ear." She turned herself upright and jumped up to stand on the top edge of the bench with her hip thingyed. "I got sent here because my parents couldn't handle their freak child. First they thought I was crazy, and then I was a freak, like they saw me as some hideous alien." She shrugged and added, "but now I know what kind of people they are."

John winced and blushed as he realized he had misintrpreted Athelia's question. "Oh." he replied lamely. "I just came out for a little fresh air. Indoors gets to confining for me sometimes." he then listened to her tale of why she had been sent here. He got up from the ground and sat on the bench again. "I'm sorry to hear that." he said sympatheitically. "I'd tell you you aren't a freak or an alien, but I'm sure you know that already."

"No see that's where you are wrong. I am a freak. But I have more fun than any normal person ever could. I mean come on, being like this is an adventure. And just think, when we are older we can be heroes, how many teens get to say that?" She laughed as balanced on her tip toes on the bench spine.

John frowned. "What makes you think your a freak? Just because you have something in your DNA that allows you to do stuff some people think is unusual or unnatural? That's their problem, don't make it yours." he told her. "And I think anyone can do anything if they really put their mind to it...that includes being a hero, special abilities or not."

She shook her head, "You take my words to seriously. I was a freaky chick before any powers manifested, I'm just an all around odd girl, even without powers people saw me as odd, but then again I thought they were too. Among all the people here, among all the unimaginable powers I still see myself as odd, and I like it that way! I want to be different, normality is completely over rated!" She jumped off the back of the bench and flipped midair, as soon as she landed on her feet she started inspecting her nails while her feet did a little jig. "As for being a hero, you have to admit that powers could possibly help."

"I don't know to many 'normal' people." John admitted, thinking back to some of the people he had encountered. "And what is normal, anyway? Your perfectly normal...for you." John winced after he said it. She had just said she didn't want to be normal and could take that as an insult. He quickly tried to change the subject, hoping she wouldn't notice. "Yes, powers can help if you decide to become a hero, but you shouldn't become overly reliant on them." John winced again. That almost sounded like he was lecturing her. He was doing really bad at this conversation stuff. "That's an interesting dance." he finally said at random, then blushed, wondering just how far he was going to ram his foot in his mouth today.

She stopped and tipped her head to look at him with one hand on her hip, "Out of curiosity how many subjects are we going to go through before you settle on one that you don't feel the need to change?" She laughed and walked over to sit on the bench with her knees drawn to her chest. "True, I'm normal, for myself, and true, to define normal would be impossible, especially since everyone is different. I just try to be whoever I am at any given moment and let the peices fall as they may, I don't try to control how others see me, just so long as I like what I see in myself." That was her way of looking at it, she wouldn't change herself to please others, no mater how much it clashed with her need to please. "And you're also right when you say we shouldn't rely too heavily on our powers, they are merely tools that we have been given and every tool can be faulty or get you into more trouble." She thought of the times when she had just gotten her power that changing into a cat had left her weak and unable to do anything, she had strengthened her gift but it still used energy to change forms. "As for the dance, I don't even ask myself where my silly ideas come from!"

John smiled slightly. At least Athelia didn't seem offended by his awkward attempts at conversation. "As many as it takes until we find one where I don't make a fool of myself." he replied to her question, then nodded thoughtfully. "I suppose that is the most important thing...liking yourself...hopefully some others will as well. And for what it's worth...I like you." he said as he glanced over at her, then quickly diverted his gaze. "I'm glad you think I'm right about so many things." he said with a soft chuckle.

Lia blushed slightly when John said he liked her, then quickly quipped, "Don't you go gettin' a big head now, I'm certain I can find something about you that is wrong, I'm even willing to get to know you well enough to find it, fancy that!" 'You like him. Don't deny it, you're not very good at hiding it, besides I'm a cat, I can tell,' Mage observed. ' Maybe I do, maybe I don't, I don't know him well enough to say,' Athalia said silently. 'I know you well enough to know that you like him.' 'If he wasn't watching I would yank you're tail,' she said glaring at the cat over her knees. 'No you wouldn't. You would be thinking of him and pining for him because that is what you do. And-'"Mreowl!" The cat said outloud and jumped off the bench, glaring daggers at Lia. He had been laying on her bare feet and she had given her toes claws and poked him in the stomach. The angry cat turned and trotted away to play with some birds that were on a stone wall nearby while Lia smirked like a wicked little girl.

John looked at Lia a bit curiously when he noticed that she blushed, he couldn't think of anything he had done to elicit that kind of reaction. 'She's probably embarressed for me, that I keep making such a fool out of myself.' John decided, then noted gratefully that she decided not to pursue the issue. "You wouldn't have to look that hard, I'm afraid." he admitted with a rueful chuckle then jumped to his feet when the cat Meowed, jumped up and stalked away. "What's wrong?" he asked, glancing around the area, drawing his knife from his pocket, looking around trying to find out what had caused the cat to have that kind of reaction.

"Oh, nothing, he was being mean so I made sure he moved, that's all. Relax." She suddenly streched her whole body out before rolling onto the grass and onto her side, her head propped on her hand. "You seem a little bit jumpy," she observed.

'She's in excellent shape.' John couldn't help thinking as he saw her strectch. It looked comfortable as well so John laid down on the grass beside her. It felt more comfortable talking to her that way, for some reason. "Mean? I didn't see him do anything. Did he try to claw you or something?" John asked, before he frowned slightly at her next observation. "Old habit, I guess. I'm just always expecting trouble, I suppose."
