Exypen stood looking at her class room from the doorway. Last year the class hadn't gone well, the students had been bored out of their wits because the class had been mandatory and strict. This year she had changed things. Instead of the room being beige with rows of desks it was painted navy with orange carpet. Scattered on the walls were mirrors, about waist high were wooden book shelves, on the top of the book shelves were metal sculptures, the books an the shelves all had covers in greens and aqua’s. The furniture was bulky couches and chairs with a wood coffee table in the middle. In one corner of the room was a cabinet with doors on it over a mini fridge and next to it was a sink, toaster, coffee machine, and microwave. In another corner with a plasma screen TV with a DVD player and surround sound unit below it, six speakers were placed strategically around the room. In the opposite corner from the entertainment system was a cluster of plants making it a little garden.
Exypen shook her head and sighed, she had been peeking her head in the room for a week now, it had been a week since the group of mutant college students had finished the room. The whole time they had been working none of the students or staff had been allowed to see the room. Now that it was done Exypen wondered what had possessed her to let those crazy kids change her class room. She had been talking with her granddaughter about the class and how she wanted to change the way it went, her granddaughter then volunteered herself and her friends to "fix up" the room. Cynthia could only hope that the kids would hate it and beg to change it. Part of her mind knew that wouldn't happen.
Sighing the headmistress walked to the corner opposite the door, the small kitchenette corner, opened one of the cabinets, pulled down a coffee mug, poured herself some of the already brewed coffee, and then went in search of the cream sugar in the cabinets. She found it behind the Pop-Tarts on the same shelf that housed boxes for mixing Jell-O and pudding, several packets of different cookies, and some beef jerky. Once she had fixed the coffee she went to sit in one of the chairs, a white with green, yellow, red, and blue polka dotted blob in a corner of the seating arrangements. The chair she found was quite comfortable, as was all of the furniture, but that still didn't excuse the oddness of the room. She sat sipping her coffee waiting for the students to arrive, that was another new thing, students from any grade could come, it was not separated by age or class.

John opened the door and looked around with confusion. He had thought this was the history class, but by the looks of the room it was a teacher's lounge or something. He blushed slightly when he saw that someone had witnessed his error. And not just any someone, but the Headmistress of the Institute, no less. "Excuse me. Sorry. Wrong room. Didn't mean to disturb you." John attempted to explain and apolagize before he turned to leave. He thought he had the hang of finding his way around but apparently he had taken a wrong turn somewhere.

"No, no come in, if you are looking for the Gifted History class this is it. Come in, get comfortable, get something to eat if you like," she said motioning to the chairs and kitchenette corner. Then suddenly she stood and picked something off of the top of the bookshelf next to the door, she excused herself as she worked around John to slide a small sign into the bracket of the door that read "Gifted History Headmistress Exypen"
"I knew I forgot something," she said in her grandmotherly way. Then she placed a hand on John's back and tried to usher him in, part of the problem however was that John was about a foot taller than she.

'I guess I did find the right place.' John realized, given the combination of the Headmistress's assurances and the fact she had placed a sign in the door that revealed this was indeed the room he was looking for. But it certainly didn't look like any classroom he had seen before. John flinched slightly when she touched him on the back...he still wasn't used to that...but he allowed her to escort him into the room. He glanced over at the kitchenette but shook his head. "I'm not hungry...thank you." he stated before he selected a couch and awkwardly sank down onto it.

"So tell me what you think of the room," Cynthia said, sitting in her own chair and steepling her fingers, something she did without thinking.
Down the hall trotted Athalia, she had talked to some of the students from last year about the Gifted History class. They had said it was boring and a waste of time that they were they weren't required to take this year. She had found a few students who said that they books were interesting enough as was the information but that the class itself had not been worth it. However, despite what they said Lia had signed up for the class since she liked history and wanted to know more about Mutants in the past. So now she headed to this class that most were reluctant to take. As she stopped at the correct door she checked the time, she was early. She smiled and opened the door, glad to be on time for once. As she walked in however she smile slipped off her face and she gazed around the room with pure confusion. Surely this was the wrong room.
Exypen turned to look at Lia and laughed a little at the girl's reaction, "Come in Miss Pierce, Mr. Williams was just about to tell me his opinion on the decor."
Lia blinked a couple times before walking over to sit beside John.

John sunk down uncomfortably in his chair and glanced around the room. "It seems more like a rec room then a class room." he finally answered her question. "The kind of place I'd like to go after class to relax. I like it, it's just...not at all what I was expecting." He then glanced up at Lia and smiled shyly at her as she entered the room, grateful that he was no longer the only student in the room and that the new arrival was someone he could almost consider a friend. He nodded a welcome to her as she sank down on the couch next to him, grateful that she was willing to.

"Yeah, it looks like what I exprected the common room to look like when I came here, only on a smaller scale. It is cool, but different," Lia said, gazing around at everything. It seemed like that was plenty to look at.
Cynthia nodded as she took in their opinions. "Well it certainly wasn't what I was expecting, but then when the class was what I was expecting everyone found it boring, so maybe it is better this way." A few more students entered the room, two fourteen year old girls who seemed to be talking about who was hot and who was not and moody boy who was senior. The boy sank into a chair after Exypen welcomed them in and the girls continued to chatter as they shuffled through the pantry to find something to snack on. Lia's ears perked up as she half-listened and she hopped up from the couch to find something for herself. As she looked she added her own comments here and there ("what does everyone see in Colin Ferrel he looks so trashy!") and soon came back to her seat with a box of Goldfish. "Want some?" she said, offering to box to John and popping one in her mouth.

John nodded a greeting to the fourteen year olds and the older boy as they walked in, but they didn't seem to notice. John couldn't help overhear the girls conversation and he simply shrugged. It didn't make a whole lot of sense to him, but John decided not to mention the fact, as Lia seemed to find it interesting and he didn't want to offend her. John looked at Lia a bit surprised by her thoughtfulness when she offered him some of her snack. "Why, yes, thank you." he replied as he reached over and took a few Goldfish out of her box.

More students filed in until all but two seats were empty, one was a bean bag and the other was a purple, padded chair. Exypen looked at her watch and then rose to close the door as it was time for the class to start. As she came back to her chair some of the students settled down and the two chattering girls giggled into silence. "Now then, is everyone comfortable?" She looked around the room at the nods, grunts, and murmurs of consent and then spoke again, "Does anyone know why they are here?"
A hand rose from a big lad who clearly thought he could win a few laughs with his dim wit when he said "Because I needed more credits to graduate."
Exypen laughed in her throat and gave a humoring smile and then turned to the rest of the class, "Seriously, do you know what you will be discussed here?"

John nodded in agreement when Exypen asked if everyone was comfortable, then when no one else seemed willing to answer, he hesitatingly rasied his hand. "History? With an emphasis on...people like us?" he answered softly.

"Correct, however you must all understand that alot of what will be 'taught' here might not be actual fact, we can only look at remains of a person's life or the stories surrounding them and come to the conclusion of whether or not they were Gifted because no one actually knew what it was that made them different and thus we can only guess. That is why this class will also be a discussion time. Now what do you think are some of the things we will be looking for, what are evidences of gifts?"
Since this seemed to be more like a discussion and study group than a "class" Lia kept her hand down and answered, "Maybe if a person were to think of things beyond their time or to understand things that were not present in their time period."
Exypen nodded and looked around the room for more answers.

John frowned when Expyn said they wouldn't neccassarily be taught facts here. What kind of history class was this? Then he shrugged. Probably most of what was in the history books was probably just an intrepratation of the facts anyway. At least she was admitting it. When Lia didn't get yelled at for not raisng her hand first, John decided he didn't need to either. "Or people reported doing and surviving things they shouldn't have been able to." he hypothisized.

"Good," Exypen murmured, "Are there any names that pop to mind when you think of these clues? Anyone who seems to personify one of these traits?" One of the girls muttered something so low no one could hear it. "Say again, please Miss Hanson, I'm old and deaf and couldn't hear you," Exypen said kindly. "Da Vinci. He made drawing of things like planes before there was anything even close to that right? Maybe he had foresight or something." "Good point, what do you all think?"
