Name: Cynthia Exypen
Age: 52
Gender: Female
Desired Position: Headmistress
Power: Ability to see mutants or those who will grow to be mutants. She also dreams of mutants when their powers show.
Weakness: Cynthia is color blind, she sees mutants with an orange glow. She also doesn’t sleep well with her numerous dreams so she is often tired, meaning she drinks a lot of coffee and is addicted to caffeine.
Physical Description: Cynthia has brown hair that is cut in a pixie and blue eyes. She is a short, thin woman with rough hands, and a gentle, grandmotherly aura. She usually is dressed semi-casual in dresses or slacks and blouses.
Personality: Cynthia is very warm, she is known to hug people if she knows them or they look like they need a hug. She has a gentle bossiness that nearly convinces the person that whatever the idea, it was originally theirs. Although being very kind and gentle she can also be strict when necessary. She can be very stubborn when it comes to keeping the school running smoothly and if something comes up in the Board of Directors of the school she will defend her stand most adamantly. She will also not let the family or financial position of a child taint her decisions on discipline and administration. She prefers the company of “her kids” to the company of other adults since she finds most adults to be ridiculous and stupid with little common sense.
History: Cynthia was born the youngest girl in a middle class family of the mid-1950, she lived a typical life but when she was thirteen she started having strange dreams. In the dreams she saw through the eyes of a teenager as superpowers, like the ones comic book characters had, come out of them and she would know the child’s name. At first she didn’t know they were visions instead of dreams and thought little of it, writing it off as more strange dreams. But when she awoke from one where a girl had been beaten and become so agitate that her power unleashed itself to flood her living room with fire, Cynthia couldn’t sleep. She considered it a nightmare until she heard on the radio the next night of a fire in her town. It said that the father of one Meredith Blaine had not survived the fire but that the rest of the family had. Shivers were sent down her spine as she learned that her dreams were real, not fake. The next day when she was able to ride her bike over to the hotel the girl was staying in Cynthia was able tell recognize the girl right off. Unlike most things she saw, which were black, white, or blues, she saw the girl with an orange glow around her. The girl’s little sister had a faint burgundy glow around her.
Soon Cynthia explained to Meredith what she knew and they grew to be friends over the next few years. From then on every time she dreamt of a child’s power showing she would send the person a letter. Eventually one of the future seers of Dynatos saw Cynthia being introduced at the school and told the administration. A letter was sent to Cynthia and she was sent to attend Dynatos in the plantation home. Once she explained her gift she started sending letters to every child with a gift, inviting them to Dynatos.
As she grew her power became stronger and she saw more and more children each night, she also started knowing their addresses and towns, making her letter writing easier.
Cynthia graduated the top of her class in 1972 and stayed close, sending more letters to gifted children. She also helped to build the new Dynatos when the construction began.
When Dynatos opened Cynthia was thirty and had been in college and gotten a teaching degree. She took one of the first new classes at Dynatos as her own, Mind Exercises, a class for those whose power centered on or originated from the brain.
She taught for twelve years and then became the Deputy Headmistress. When the previous Headmistress retired in 2002 Cynthia became Headmistress Exypen and has been for the last four years, she is now prepared to begin her fifth school year and is just as excited about the school and her students as ever.
Other: Maxwell Jonte, the man who runs the Xenos Barrier, Fence, and Gate, is Cynthia’s nephew; he is her only mutant family. She has no kids of her own so considers the Dynatos students her own; she also protects them as such. She does however consider one of her first student as more family then others and considers that alumni's children her grandchildren since she in their Godmother. Cynthia is also trained to use several of the guns that are heavily guarded on the campus. She also knows how all of the security programs work on the campus along with her Deputy Headmaster and some of the senior staff.
IC: As headmistress of the school Cynthia was one of the last people to get to bed and one of the first to get up. Not that she slept well anyway. It was in her dreams that she saw color but also where she saw some horrible things. To the normal eye she was normal but only if she were hooked up to a machine that read brain waves as she slept would anything appear out of the ordinary. She knew this because it had been done.
Tonight she flipped to a new page on her notebook and wrote the date. She would have more names to add to the list tonight, it was fact. She slipped under her covers and turned out her lamp. Try as she might Cynthia would not slip right off into dreamland, her mind would instead go over the day’s events. Spring break had just started and her campus had not been as busy as usual, what without classes and some students going to visit their families. ‘The lucky ones that is,’ she thought. She thought back on one of the youngsters who had finally made it to the school yesterday. The girl’s power wasn’t the most unusual she had ever seen but her parents had treated it as though she could talk to the dead. ‘They can’t imagine the poor kids whose power is with the dead.’
The kid had been dirty and looked as though she had walked from the Barrier to the school, possibly farther. She had been silent and not wanted to talk to anyone. ‘But she will talk. She will see this as home and will grow to love it here. Her family will be a memory and this will be a dream come true. It always is.’
She shook her head as her mind grew sluggish, she would be asleep soon. She would witness the things most of the kid’s kept to themselves. Sometimes their first experiences with their powers was easy or harmless. Sometimes it was embarrassing and sometimes it was painful. But either way she saw them. And she was the only one some of them would talk to about the experiences.
She was the headmistress and it was her job, if not her pleasure, to see the things that the kid’s went through.
