Ryan's suitcase clunked onto the ground. He turned around to thank the bus driver but the doors were already closing. The bus chugged away and he was left staring at the old mansion. Feeling lost at that moment, his eyes wandered over the mansion proper and he spotted a few isolated kids lying around in the shade. The bus had been late (and not a good first experience with American public transport) and the sun was high, so the grounds were quiet and deserted. He grabbed the front of his shirt and tried to ventilate it, then he trekked up the driveway with his suitcase on its scratched wheels in tow, bumping into his leg every other step.
(I've taken the liberty of assuming the real world time of year is the time of year in-game, so summer holidays everyone!)

((In general there is no actualy time. I need to set that up but I forget. Gr. I forget a lot.))
Headmistress Exypen grudgingly opened the front door of the school. It was very hot. She loved the warm weather but warm weather and hot weather were too different things. Still it was her job, her pleasure to welcome the new students. Today she wished her Deputy Headmester could have done this job, but he was busy. She could almost already feel the sun giving her skin cancer as she walked across the lawn to their new student. This boy was new to her, her gift extended to America and parts of Canada and Mexico, but not to the UK, so to hear that this boy was coming to their school was a surprise and a joy. She still couldn't believe that there was no school to welcome him in closer to his home. But who was she to question anyone?
As she neared she smiled, "Mr. Eastman. I'm Headmistress Exypen, pleased to meet you, my dear. How was your journey?"

He was a little disappointed at the early reception, he had been hoping to have a sit down in the reception rather than still having to walk around while he was getting the tour. "Hi..." He battled with the idea of offering a hand. "It was... cramped. Economy class on the flight over and buses all the way here. Plus it feels like evening." he said with a shrug. He briefly looked up at the sky and had an explicable feeling that his eyes were wrong.

"I'm sorry. I hope you adapt easily, if however you need to be roaming early or late because you are not accustomed to the time change then do not worry about causing trouble as long as you do not leave the grounds. We have a few students who are more night people and thus we are a little more lenient, especially since it is summer." As she spoke she had been walking back to the school to draw him out of the heat, "Is there anything I can help you carry?"

"Nah, I'm fine. Rest of my stuff is s'posed to be shipped in a week or so." He followed her towards the mansion, trying in vain to manoeuvre the case so it wouldn't constantly whack his leg. "So when does the term start? And where are the bedrooms?" He had a lot of questions wanting to be answered, but decided these would be less intrusive and easier to answer, probably not considered polite to lay on questions to the effect of 'Where are all the people with cool super-powers?'

"Term will start on the twenty-seventh of this month. The dorms are before you actually, The center section of the building is the Mains, with the lobby, some offices, and below it is the central common room. On our left is the girls' wing and on our right is the boys' wing. The ground floor is where the teachers sleep and the floors above and below are for students. I was unsure whether you would prefer to have a room of your own or share so I put you with Mr. Williams in B15. If you would like to change you can but I thought being with a student who had been here a little longer would be good." As they entered the Mains Exypen motioned to a tray that sat on small table beside the doors. The tray held two glasses of ice and a glass pitcher of yellowish liquid. "Would you like any lemonade? Or anything else can be sent up from the kitchens to eat or drink if you like. I thought though that lemonade would be good since it is so hot."

"I'd prefer my own room honestly." He was sure there was nothing but good intentions behind it, but he'd prefer to make his own friends. He gratefully accepted the glass of lemonade and gulped it down. She was right, it was cooling. Yet it was another cliché, the pretty mother coming out of the front door with apron and laden with tray of lemonade for their child and their two friends. Maybe he'd just seen To Kill a Mockingbird too many times, but it seemed a thoroughly American habit. "Can I get to a room now or do you need to arrange it first?" He placed the glass back on the tray but kept an ice-cube in his mouth to suck on.

Exypen produced a key and a slightly crumpled envelope from her pocket. "Boy Scouts are not the only ones told to always be prepared. I prepared a room for you justi n case you wanted one to yourself." She led him over to a hall half way through the Mains and on the right. "Now this floor houses the staff, the men on this side, the women on the other. Student rooms are above and below the teacher's rooms. Obviously males are not allowed in the East Wing and females are not allowed in the West Wing. Which is why I must leave you here. You will go up these stairs and the second door on your left will be your room. It will have your welcome packet with much of the common information that you will need. This however is a map-" she held up the envelope "- and this is your key. Now do you want to go stow your stuff away and then come back down and get a tour or you can just wander around with the map and information that is in your packet. If you wanted I could probably find a student to show you around also if you want. It's up to you."

((Don't you just hate writer's block?))
"Thanks..." he took the envelope from her hand and looked at it for a second before stuffing it into his pocket with his free hand, crumpling it even more. "Just... thanks for having me. It means a lot that there are people who'll accept me for me." He thought of his friend Hannah, and how she had become estranged from him when he revealed his secret, the situation had been exacerbated by the fact that he used to have a crush on her. He turned towards the opening of the hallway and walked over the clunky wood floor ((taken another liberty here - feel free to correct me)). He hoped his room was underground, that'd be cool. Kinda X-men. Then again, no way to get an extra draft without going outside and letting the flora assault his nasal passages.

"If we don't accept you then we can't accept ourselves. Everyone here has dealt with learning this new fact and everyone has dealt with someone who didn't accept their gift. This whole school and town is gifted, save for a handful of non-Gifteds who accept us better than even the best so don't worry about anything. Dynatos is a refuge." She stopped. The older woman tended to get emotional when it came to thinking how some of her kids had been treated by non-Gifteds. "We are also a family and home," she said after she had gotten control of herself. "Speaking of home you should go put your stuff away. Just let me know if you want me to wait for you or you can go find your own way around. There will probably be students in the Common Room if you wanted to go there."
