John shrugged. "I've got pretty good at using my hearing in a fight. No one has been able to sneak up on me for quite a awhile." he stated. "And I'm trying to acclimate my powers to everyday life, but it isn't easy." John didn't want the conversation to be all about him so he tried to change the subject. "So how are you adapting with your powers?"

Lia gave him a half smile while she flicked her cat ears and wrapped her tail around her torso, "Rather well, it's like a part of me was turned off when I was little and now that it is turned on everything feels natural. Well most of it, hearing spiders in the room and smelling mice and birds is still a little odd and creepy, but I'm working with it. The coolest thing is seeing in the dark though, I shall never trip over something again!" She said the last bit dramatically and then laughed a little bit.

"Really? it's almost the opposite for me. I just can't seem to get them under control sometimes." he tapped his headset. "hence the need for technological aids." He raised an eyebrow at her next comment. "Your hearing's even better then mine...you can hear spiders?" He shook his head. "How do you manage to tune them out and not go insane?" John didn't know what he would do without his headset to help filter out the noise.

"I can't so much hear a spider, I hear a scratching, I guess it is a spider and hope it isn't going to bite me. As for dealing with it... loud noises hurt terribly and I have to change my ears back to human ones, I can also hear high pitched noises. Basically whatever a cat can hear. Sometimes it is weird though, like it is all too much and I have to be all human or I will lose my mind. If I am in a crowd I can't do cat ears at all, it would be way too much noise. I'm sure my hearing isn't better than yours, you have your headset and that probably blocks out the smaller sounds that I can hear. I can't imagine what you can hear though, or see, it must be incredible."

"Ahhh..." John nodded as Lia explained her powers to him. "You can turn it off then...that must be nice. It does get to much sometimes, but there isn't really much I can do about it. I'm hoping it will get better the more I use my powers and learn to screen stuff out. It does get WAY too much sometimes." He then shrugged. "It is incredible sometimes...seeing and hearing stuff no one else can. But there are also drawbacks...seeing and hearing things you probably shouldn't and would have been better off not knowingf about." John replied softly, images of his Uncle's death coming back to haunt him.

"I can see how that would be, atleast your power doesn't leave you naked if you use it," she said laughing gently, thinking of the predicaments she had found herself before she learned to grow fur on her body to hide her nakedness.

John blushed slightly, thinking he could use his power to see her naked, if he chose, but also knowing it was probably best not to mention that. "Yeah...I can see where that would be a problem...I guess." he replied, not quite sure how much of her her fur actually covered, and turning even redder as he considered various ways he could ask, discarding them all as inappropiate.

Lia looked at John's blushing face quizzically, "What are you thinking? Nevermind. Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable with that comment, it is just a fact of my life, sorta like I hate water."

John released a (hopefully inaudible) sigh of relief when Lia let him off the hook and didn't force him to try and explain what he had been thinking just then. After that conversation, she would likely never speak to him again. Instead, he latched on desperately to another topic she brought up. "Have you always hated water? Or just since your gifts started developing?" After the words left his mouth, John blushed again as he realized the possible double meaning behind his question.

"Hon' I'm starting to think you have a fever," she said, laying the back of her hand on his forehead as he turned red again, "It is part of the gift, my personality changed and I have to fight back cat instincts to stay human, some of the traits I like others not so much so, they cause ackward situations."

Having Lia gently lay her hand on his forhead didn't do much to improve the state of John's blushing. Nor did her calling him Hon'. "What kind of traits don't you like?" John asked, hoping the answer to that question wouldn't prove even more awkward then the current situation.

"The desire to chase objects or do nothing but sleep, the fact that I hate and fear water is a less than agreeable trait as well. Basically the things that interupt a normal life because they are annoying habits. I do like the agility and heightened senses and strength I get thought, so I wouldn't change my gift for anything."

John nodded. "Yeah...I guess I can see that. My powers have their downsides as well. Like having to wear this headset all the time. And being able to see stuff...but not be able to do anything about it. But it didn't alter my personality any. Not that I'm aware of, at least."

"I think they always alter our personalities, even if it something so small as the fact that we now know what it is to be different. We feel a kinship toward other gifteds that we didn't feel before and that changes us. 'Course that is a change we all go through, some (like myself) change a ton." She wasn't completely clueless, she just preferred to seem light hearted all the time.
